Knives Of Alaska

Knives of Alaska is an American knife manufacturer specializing in premium hunting knives, fixed-blade outdoor knives, skinning tools, and field-ready cutlery. Founded in 1992 by Charles and Jody Allen, the company was inspired by years of experience guiding hunters and exploring the demanding wilderness of Alaska.

This firsthand outdoor knowledge continues to influence its product designs, combining practical functionality, carefully selected materials, and precision craftsmanship.

Manufactured in Denison, Texas, the collection is developed for hunters, guides, fishermen, campers, and outdoor enthusiasts who appreciate purpose-built cutting tools with a strong American heritage.

Born from the Challenges of the Alaskan Wilderness

The story began when founder Charles Allen, an experienced Alaskan hunting guide and outfitter, recognized the importance of dependable cutting tools during hunting and outdoor expeditions. His practical experience inspired the creation of knives designed around real field requirements. Established in 1992, the company developed its identity through outdoor testing, continuous product refinement, and a commitment to American manufacturing. Its original Brown Bear Skinner/Cleaver received the Blade Magazine Award for Most Innovative American Made Design at the 1994 International Blade Show, establishing an important milestone in the brand’s history.

Experience That Shapes Every Design

Years spent navigating remote landscapes, guiding big-game hunts, and working in challenging outdoor environments have influenced the company’s approach to knife development. This practical foundation helps shape blade profiles, handle configurations, and cutting geometries suited to specific hunting and field applications.

Specialized Knives for Serious Outdoor Pursuits

The product lineup includes a comprehensive selection of hunting knives, skinning knives, caping knives, fixed-blade models, folding knives, and combination knife sets. Recognizable designs include the Brown Bear, Alpha Wolf, Cub Bear, Light Hunter, and Bush Camp collections. Each range offers distinctive blade shapes and configurations developed for particular outdoor tasks, giving customers options for game processing, campsite preparation, general cutting, and wilderness activities.

Purpose-Built Hunting and Skinning Collections

Specialized combinations, such as skinner and caper sets, provide complementary tools for different stages of field dressing. Larger hunting blades accommodate demanding cutting tasks, while compact caping knives offer precision for detailed work. This practical product variety makes the collection particularly appealing to hunters and professional outdoor users.

American Steel and Quality Materials

Material selection is central to the brand’s manufacturing philosophy. Depending on the model, blades feature American D2 tool steel, 440C stainless steel, and CPM S30V, among other carefully selected blade materials.

Handle options include genuine stag, G10, and SureGrip Santoprene, providing different textures, appearances, and handling characteristics. Many fixed-blade designs also feature full-tang construction for a solid, integrated structure.

Precision Manufacturing in Denison, Texas

Knives of Alaska manufactures its products in Denison, Texas, inside a historic World War II-era parachute manufacturing facility. Its production approach combines traditional knife-making craftsmanship with modern manufacturing capabilities.

The company’s commitment to American-sourced materials and domestic production reflects its dedication to maintaining a distinctive identity rooted in quality workmanship and outdoor heritage.

Field-Tested Innovation and Functional Details

Practical innovation is reflected in features such as ergonomic handle shapes, textured SureGrip surfaces, carefully developed blade profiles, and purpose-designed leather sheaths. The company’s designs are tested in Alaska, where demanding outdoor conditions provide valuable insight into their development and refinement.
